About Steve Martin
Steve Martin is an American comedian, actor, writer, and musician who initially gained popularity through his work with stand-up comedy. He was a frequent guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the 1960’s, which led to successful national tours in the 1970’s. During this time, he was also a frequent guest on Saturday Night Live, having appeared a total of 27 times. He hosted the show 15 times, the second most all time behind Alec Baldwin’s 17.
In 1981 Steve Martin stopped doing stand-up comedy to focus on acting. He had numerous small roles in movies before his first breakout hit; The Jerk. The comedic film was a huge success, making $100 million in the box office on a $4 million budget. This was just the first of many successful hit movies, including Three Amigos!, Father of the Bride (parts I and II), and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
More recently, he has had success with comedies like Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther.
