If it’s in New Orleans, it’s going to be a good time, and that definitely holds true for anything held at The Smoothie King Center- whether that’s an NBA All Stars game or an ArenaBowl event.
The Smoothie King Center (formerly New Orleans Arena) is a multi-purpose venue that is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the heart of the Central Business District. It was completed in October of 1999 and has hosted many sports, music, and other various events over the years. Today it remains an icon, contributing greatly to New Orleans' rich entertainment history. And in real history- following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, medical operations were moved from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to the Smoothie King Arena (or the New Orleans Arena as it was known at the time). The reason for this was because the more modern structural design was designed by a wind engineering consulting firm, and it was able to withstand the storm better than the Superdome.
With a seating capacity ranging between 17,000 and 18,000 people depending on the event, this massive arena is perfect for large events like the NBA All-Star Games which were hosted there in 2008 and in 2014. The New Orleans Pelicans are a professional basketball team in the NBA that has been proud to call the Smoothie King Center their home since 2002. The New Orleans VooDoo has also represented “The Graveyard” as it is known during AFL home games. In fact, the ArenaBowl XXI in 2007, the ArenaBowl XXII in 2008, and the ArenaBowl XXV in 2012 were all held at the Smoothie King Center. Get your New Orleans Pelicans tickets and enjoy live NBA action at this one of kind facility.
In addition to basketball and arena football, the Smoothie King Center has hosted many boxing and wrestling matches, and even bull-riding events. This venue is not just utilized for sports, however. Concerts, family events, and other performing arts events are also hosted on a regular basis. When it comes to big-name concerts, the Smoothie King Center is known as the place to catch the biggest stars when they come through. This venue has proven to be quite versatile, transforming seamlessly from sports arena to rock concert venue.
