For those who don’t follow musical theater, Sarah Brightman first got her start performing in musicals on London’s famous West End theater district. In fact, she originated the role of Christine Daaé in The Phantom Of The Opera, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who happened to be Brightman’s then-husband. Unfortunately, the pair divorced in 1990, but that’s actually when the soprano singer set her sights beyond the Broadway stage and aspired to become a classical crossover artist.
It would take a few years, but in 1997, she achieved household-name status with the gorgeous ballad, “Time To Say Goodbye,” which she performed with popera singer Andrea Bocelli, who originally released the song in Spanish under the title “Con Te Partirò.” (The song has since been covered and performed everywhere from America’s Got Talent to Sesame Street to the closing ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.) From there, Brightman’s star continued to rise with the release of six more studio albums, which established her as a global phenomenon and the world’s richest female classical performer. Though she continues to tour, performing hits like “Pie Jesu” and “Canto Della Terra,” Brightman’s next big trip has an unlikely destination: Space. In 2015, she’s slated to travel to the International Space Station.
Catch her before she heads to the moon. ScoreBig lets you save on every Sarah Brightman ticket, every day.
