Electronica, rap, R&B, new age, pop… the list of genres that Robyn can beautifully present is endless. Robin Miriam Carlsson (Robyn) took to the music scene by storm with her 1995 debut album called Robyn Is Here, including two Billboard Hot 100 top ten singles. After releasing 2 more albums in Sweden, her fourth album, Robyn, shook the world again, and even got her nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2010, Robyn released a mini album trilogy called the Body Talk series, which received three more Grammy nominations and three more top 10 singles. Her latest studio solo album is Honey, released in 2018.
Robin Miriam Carlsson knew she wanted to be in music very early. At age 12, she recorded the theme song for a Swedish TV series called Lilla Sportspegeln. At age 14, after completing middle school, she signed with Ricochet Records Sweden. Her work with producers Max Martin and Denniz Pop is what blossomed her gritty, popular sound. She eased her way to the top of the Swedish music scene in practically no time. In 1997, she released “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)” to breakthrough in the United States. The songs reached top ten in the Billboard Hot 100.
Robyn has jumped from label to label. She had been with Ricochet Records Sweden (later acquired by BMG) and RCA Records before making it big in the United States. In 2001, she signed a worldwide deal with Jive Records after having issues with BMG. However, Jive was later acquired by BMG as well. Jive’s negative reaction to her single “Who’s That Girl?” drove her to leave the label and start releasing music on her own. In 2005, she created Konichiwa Records to liberate herself from the artistic control that labels possess.
Robyn released a song in 2017 called “Honey” which was used in the soundtrack of HBO TV Series, Girls. Since then, Robyn has been relatively silent, only dropping hints and clues pertaining to her newest album release until September 2018, when she announced that it will be released in October. IN November, she announced that she will be on tour across North America and Europe, with tour dates set from February to April 2019.
