About Ringo Starr
Born in Liverpool in July of 1940, Sir Richard Starkey, best know as Ringo Starr, has been an icon in the music industry for roughly six decades. He had success as a drummer as early as 17 years old, with his involvement in several trendy bands that toured the United Kingdom and Germany, predominantly playing small venues like bars and clubs. These live performances where were Ringo was first noticed by another young, up-and-coming band; The Beatles. Although the group already had a drummer, Ringo had the opportunity to fill in for a few performances, and the rest is history. Once Ringo joined John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison on stage, the band never returned to their original drummer.
As Beatlemania swept across the globe, the bandmates not only saw the popularity of the group skyrocket, but also their popularity as individuals. Although Ringo was primarily the drummer, he did sing a handful of Beatle songs, including the hits With a Little Help from my Friends and Yellow Submarine, which set the stage nicely for his post-Beatles solo career.
After the band’s breakup, Ringo embarked on his solo career by immediately releasing an album, which featured the other three ex-Beatles on separate songs. In 1989 he formed Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, which is a touring group that is constantly evolving with a different set of members for each tour. Over the years, notable members of the group have included Joe Walsh of The Eagles, Pete Townshend of The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, and several others.
