Pitbull made a lot of headlines with “Culo”, the lead single from his debut album. Many years and albums later, he has become one of the most sought after names in the hip hop world. He owes a lot to his hard work, but also acknowledges that his fans are very important to him and that is why all that he does is geared towards making them happy.
"When you make this music that makes everybody feel good, that is the goal. When you come and see me ... I want you to escape.”
In a nutshell, this is what Pitbull is all about!
Now he is on a very special tour with Enrique Iglesias. Once that ends, he will make his way to The AXIS at Planet Hollywood for “Time of Our Lives.” He will begin his stint there in January of 2018 and the superstar will perform there in April and May as well. If you are a fan, then grab your Pitbull tickets and watch the 36 year old Latin sensation live, doing what he does best.
The Early Days
Pitbull was born in Miami to parents that were Cuban immigrants. His parents made sure that he never got detached from his roots. When he was growing up, Pitbull got hooked to music by the likes of Willy Chirino and Celia Cruz. Unfortunately, his parents separated when he was quite young.
With the passage of time, Pitbull began to listen to Luther Campbell and Poison Clan and those two names influenced him early on. The time had come for him to step into the world of music and he started off by featuring on different mixtapes. Pitbull was then called by Luther Campbell to appear on his track Lollipop.
That appearance brought him to the attention of the Diaz Brothers who put him through to Lil Jon. That turned into an opportunity to appear on Jon’s album “Kings of Crunk.” Pitbull’s song Oye made it to the soundtrack of the movie “2 Fast 2 Furious” in 2003.
Pitbull’s Career Begins
In the year 2004, Pitbull came out with his first album titled “M.I.A.M.I.” and its title track Culo went on to peak at the thirty second spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself went to the first spot on the U.S. Independent Albums chart, to the seventh spot on the U.S. R&B Albums and to the second position on the U.S. Rap Albums. The record eventually went gold in the United States.
Pitbull then released “El Mariel,” “The Boatlift” and “Pitbull Starring in Rebelution” in 2006, 2007 and 2009 respectively. All three albums received lukewarm response from the fans and failed to receive any certification from the RIAA. He then released “Armando” in 2010 that went gold in the country. The record was his first Spanish record and it earned him seven Billboard Latin Music Awards nominations. Pitbull also won a Lo Nuestro Award for “Armando.”
Pitbull Keeps Moving Forward
In April of 2011, Jennifer Lopez came out with her album “Love?” and Pitbull appeared on two of its singles. One of those was On the Floor that became a very big hit. It went to the ninth spot on the Billboard Hot 100 on its debut and eventually went to peak at the third position. The track also charted in multiple countries around the globe. On the Floor went four times platinum in Australia and Switzerland. It was also certified triple platinum in the US, Spain and Italy. Across the border in Canada, the track went five times platinum.
Then on June 21, 2011, Pitbull came out with “Planet Pit,” his next album. Give me Everything was the second single from the album and it turned out to be a big hit. The track went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, thus becoming Pitbull’s first song to achieve the feat. The album itself went to the seventh spot on the Billboard 200 on its debut. It had critics raving about it too. AllMusic gave it four stars out of five while Us Weekly and Rolling Stone gave it three out of five. The record was certified platinum in Australia and Canada. In the US, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Hungary, France and Germany “Planet Pit” was certified gold.
Pitbull then released “Global Warming” on November 19, 2012. He then went on a world tour in support of the record in 2013. He released a track Feel This Moment in January of 2013 with Christina Aguilera featuring on it. The song turned out to be a commercial success and went to the eighth spot on the Billboard Hot 100. He also performed the track with Aguilera at the Billboard Music Awards ceremony in 2013. Feel This Moment was certified twice platinum in the US. It went three times platinum in Australia and quadruple platinum in Canada.
Pitbull has released two more albums, “Dale” and “Climate Change” since then. He also teamed up with Claudia Leitte and Jennifer Lopez to perform the track We Are One at the FIFA World Cup 2014’s opening ceremony.
