Texas Arlington Mavericks Women's Basketball History
The Texas Arlington Mavericks Women's Basketball team, representing the University of Texas at Arlington, has a rich and storied history dating back to the inception of women's intercollegiate basketball in the 1970s. Initially known as the Texas Arlington Lady Mavericks, the program has grown and developed over decades, achieving notable success. The team became a member of the Southland Conference in 1989 and later transitioned to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2012. In 2013, the Mavericks joined the Sun Belt Conference, where they have since competed at a high level. Throughout their history, the Mavericks have made multiple appearances in the NCAA tournament, with their first significant recognition coming in 1981 when they reached the NAIA National Tournament.
