Loyola Chicago Ramblers Women's Basketball History
The Loyola Chicago Ramblers Women’s Basketball program has a rich history that dates back to its inception in 1975. The team began competing in the NCAA Division I in the 1982-1983 season and has since made notable strides in the world of women’s college basketball. After years of fluctuating success in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now part of the Horizon League), the program gained momentum during the late 1990s and early 2000s under the leadership of various coaches, culminating in several conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances. The Ramblers are known for their strong emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and the enhancement of student-athletes, reflecting the values of Loyola University Chicago. The recent hiring of head coach Kate Achter in 2020 marked a new era for the program, focusing on revitalizing the team’s competitiveness and fostering a winning culture. In 2018, the women’s team also raised the profile of Loyola Chicago as a basketball school through their incredible support for the men’s team, which made a run to the NCAA Final Four. This connection has fostered an environment where women’s sports are celebrated, gaining visibility and growth over the years.
