    Auburn Tigers Women's Basketball History

The Auburn Tigers women's basketball program began in 1972, shortly after the establishment of Title IX, which mandated equal opportunities for women in sports. The team gained recognition in the 1980s under coach Joe Ciampi, who led them to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1982. The program achieved significant success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, notably reaching the NCAA Final Four in 1988. Under Ciampi, the Tigers consistently challenged for SEC titles and developed a reputation for strong defensive play and teamwork. The team has produced numerous talented players, some of whom have gone on to successful careers in the WNBA and overseas. Over the years, Auburn has maintained a competitive presence in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), with several NCAA Tournament appearances and a dedicated fan base supporting their efforts. The team's history is marked by resilience and a commitment to excellence, with alumni often returning to support current players and contribute to the program's legacy.
