The City That Never Sleeps, the Big Apple, Gotham, The City so Nice They Named it Twice are all things real New Yorkers would never call their hometown. But needless to say, the city’s reputation precedes it. The nicknames are apropos each in their own way, not least of all that first one. And what with so many iconic sports teams to check out and some of the best music and theater in the world, why sleep anyway?
Major League Baseball fans are rabid here, they can chose to see games with Yankees tickets or Mets tickets, who also meet each year in the annual Subway Series. NBA fans catch live action by way of New York Knicks tickets or Brooklyn Nets tickets. WNBA fans cheer on their favorite team with New York Liberty tickets. Fans of the hard hitting NFL can get their chance to see live football with New York Giants tickets and New York Jets tickets. NHL fans can pick between New York Rangers tickets and New York Islanders tickets to see high flying hockey live. Soccer fanatics now have two teams to cheer for with New York Red Bulls tickets and New York City FC tickets.
The Yankees and New York City FC play at the new Yankee Stadium, while the Mets call Citi Field home. The Jets and the Giants both play at MetLife Stadium just outside the city in East Rutherford, NJ. The Nets and the Islanders share Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Knicks and the Rangers both play at Madison Square Garden. Finally, the Red Bulls call Red Bull Arena home.
New York is also known for music and theater, holding a special place in both histories as the home of Broadway and the breeding ground for countless musical artists. The city has 40 Broadway Theaters – professional theaters with 500 seats or more. There are even more Off-Broadway Theaters, where work tends to be more experimental. Music venues are almost too numerous to name, but the best known ones have special places in history. From small venues like Bowery Ballroom and Beacon theater to massive event spaces like Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden, New York City satisfies just about any musical taste.
