In indie-rock circles, Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Magnum is a man of both legend and myth. His band only released two albums—1996’s On Avery Island and 1998’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea—but those LPs went on to inspire an entire generation of alt-rock fans and artists alike. If not for Neutral Milk Hotel, we wouldn’t have bands like Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Franz Ferdinand or The Decemberists.
Magnum suffered a meltdown following Aeroplane’s release and practically vanished from both the music scene and, well, the planet. The singer/songwriter fell off the grid and avoided the spotlight at all costs; however, around 2006, rumors of Magnum’s return started to surface. It would take another eight years, though, until the headlines were verified and the band announced they’d reunite. “Even after 15 years of mythologizing buildup, Neutral Milk Hotel still point at something bigger and weirder and more beautiful than most people can ever imagine,” SPIN wrote in a review of the group’s first comeback gig in October 2013 at a Baltimore Methodist church turned arts center.
Fans who’ve been praying for this reunion had better reserve their spot ASAP, because Magnum has told numerous sources he has no plans to tour with the band again any time soon. ScoreBig will even let you save. In fact, you’ll save on every Neutral Milk Hotel ticket, every day.
