When Milky Chance first burst onto the scene no one knew what to expect. Then they came out with their debut album “Sadnecessary” and the music fraternity had no choice but to sit up and take notice; such was the exceptional quality of their music.
It has been some rise for the German sensations. Not only has the duo become a multi-platinum success story, but they have also won some major awards. The astonishing part is that this is just the beginning of what promises to be an epic journey. This is the story of a band that has come out of a small town in Germany to make a massive impact all over the globe. Now that they are here, this is your chance to grab Milky Chance tickets and see them live in concert.
The German Origins
Philipp Dausch and Clemens Rehbein began to play together for the first time as part of a jazz quartet in Kassel, Germany. The band disbanded when the drummer quit but Rehbein and Dausch continued playing together. They would record the tracks and then upload them on YouTube where they began to get a lot of traction.
They played only two live shows in 2013 and then went on to record their debut studio album. However before they could complete the album, Milky Chance decided to upload plenty of songs on YouTube and SoundCloud. One of those tracks was titled Stolen Dance and it was uploaded on YouTube on April 4, 2013. Their own expectations for the track were not too high but they had grossly underestimated what they had created.
Stolen Dance got viral in no time and racked up views in millions. It has been viewed well over an astonishing three hundred and twenty million times till now. It also went on to chart at the number one spot in the US, UK, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, France, Belgium and Australia.
Milky Chance decided to expand their appeal and announce themselves to the fans in other countries as well. The duo performed at the Reeperbahn Festival and that is where they caught the attention of a representative from Ignition. A meeting was set up and it ended with a distribution deal being signed. That was followed by a tour where they played over a staggering one hundred shows all across Europe.
The Debut Studio Album
Milky Chance then released their first studio album titled “Sadnecessary” in their native Germany on October 1, 2013 and in the US on October 14, 2014. Apart from Stolen Dance, it also contained another track Down by the River. It peaked at the seventeenth spot on the US Billboard 200 and also made it to fourteenth position in Germany. On top of that, the record also climbed to the third and fourth spots on the US Top Alternative Albums and the US Top Rock Albums charts respectively. Sadnecessary was certified platinum in the US and gold in both Germany and Canada.
Reaching New Heights
Milky Chance had started to make a lot of noise in the US too by that point. They not only went on a tour of the US and Canada but also appeared on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The duo then performed at the legendary Coachella in April of 2015.
Milky Chance release their next album titled “Blossom” on March 17, 2017 and it peaked at the eighth spot in Switzerland while it made it the fifth position in Germany. It also cracked the Top 10 in Canada and Australia.
