The Early Years
Lil Yachty did not have the luxury of enjoying a comfortable childhood but even that couldn’t stop him from falling in love with music. His love affair with music began at quite an early age and he cites Speed of Sound by Coldplay as the first track he remembers listening to as a youngster. He also used to listen to music by the likes of Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and The Beatles.
His real name is Miles Park McCollum and it was in the year 2015 that he adopted Lil Yachty as his stage name. That was also the year when he decided to relocate to the Big Apple to become a musician. Things were not easy for him as he was broke. He never gave up on his dreams and used those hardships as motivation to turn his life around.
In New York, he used to stay with a friend and then began to develop his Instagram following. His talents first caught attention in December of 2015 when his track One Night, that he had uploaded on SoundCloud, featured in a comedy video that went viral.
Mixtapes and Collaborations Galore
In February of 2016, Lil Yachty got an opportunity to model for Yeezy Season 3, Kanye West’s fashion line. He followed that up by coming out with his first mixtape titled “Lil Boat” the next month. It went on to peak at one hundred and sixth spot on the US Billboard 200.
Lil Yachty then collaborated on the track Broccoli with D.R.A.M. The track was a big hit that went as high as the fifth spot on the Billboard Hot 100. He also featured on “Coloring Book mixtape” by Chance the Rapper. In June of 2016, Lil Yachty signed with Motown Records, Capitol Record and Quality Control Music.
That was followed by the release of his next mixtape “Summer Songs 2” the next month. He then made an appearance on Kyle’s single iSpy in December, 2016 and the track From the D to the A by Tee Grizzley.
Lil Yachty then released his first studio album titled “Teenage Emotions” on May 26, 2017. The record received four stars out of five from The Guardian and three and a half stars out of five from Rolling Stone.
On the commercial front, Teenage Emotions went to the fifth spot on the US Billboard 200 on debut and peaked at the fourth spot on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It also went to the seventeenth position at the Billboard Canadian Albums chart.
Lil Yachty Tour Tickets
Lil Yachty will close out 2017 with performances at the SnowGlobe Music Festival and the New Years Eve On the Rocks event. This comes right on the heels of The Teenage Tour that saw him perform all across the US between August and October, 2017. The year might be coming to an end but the next year promises to be an even better one for this young star. He is expected to play plenty of live shows in 2018 and Lil Yachty tour tickets will be in demand once again once the plans are finalized.
