Lil Uzi Vert has cited Marilyn Manson as his biggest influence. He had this to say about him,
Lil Uzi Vert is the moniker of Symere Woods who was born in Philadelphia in 1994. Growing up listening to rap music, he eventually thought of becoming a hip-hop star and recorded a song, Dej Loaf. The track impressed the American hip-hop and R&B record producer, Don Cannon after he heard it on the radio. He later along with his partners, DJ Drama and Leighton Morrison decided to sign him to their record label, Generation Now. Uzi at the same time, signed with Atlantic Records as well.
On August 5, 2015, Lil Uzi Vert kicked off his career in the industry by coming out with his debut mixtape, ‘The Real Uzi.’ Unfortunately, it went unnoticed and failed to make any impact on the music charts. However, one year later, Uzi started to gain attention from the masses thanks to his collaborative effort with Carnage on his single, WDYW, which also featured Rich the Kid and ASAP Ferg. 2016 was the breakout year for Lil Uzi Vert. To start things off, he put out his third mixtape, ‘Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World’ on April 15th. It peaked at the eighteenth spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and achieved gold level sales in the United States. In addition, it earned raving marks from the critics as AllMusic and HipHopDX gave it three and a half stars out of five each. Lil Uzi Vert didn’t slow down his pace after spending much of 2016 in recording new music and churned out his third EP, ‘Luv is Rage 1.5’ on February 26, 2017. It yielded a single, XO Tour Lif3 which reached the seventh spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified four times platinum by the RIAA. It also became a moderate hit in European countries and went gold in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom.
