This American indie pop band was founded in 2014 by three friends: Paul Jason Klein, Leslie Priest and Jake Goss. Klein had a small solo career and Goss and Priest had a project called WRLDS before the three met in Nashville to create LANY. The name is influenced by their desire to spread their music from coast to coast, hence, “LA-NY”.
LANY released their first two songs shortly after forming the group on SoundCloud incognito to differentiate themselves from the projects they were previously working on. Their debut EP titled Acronyms would follow, featuring the song “ILYSB” which received massive support online. After releasing “Made in Hollywood” and “Bad, Bad, Bad”, they publicized their identities.
Things moved very quickly for LANY after they formed, and in 2015 they embarked on tours with the likes of Twin Shadow, Tove Styrke, X Ambassadors and Halsey. LANY was also featured in many festival appearances and was even able to perform in Lollapalooza.Polydor Records signed LANY in December of 2015, when a re-release EP titled Make Out was released. This sparked a UK support tour with none other than Ellie Goulding for March of 2016.
Their first US headline tour was announced for May of 2016, and they made appearances in more festivals like Bonnaroo, Firefly, and Outside Lands shortly after.
In 2017, LANY released their debut album, LANY. Zane Lowe from Beats 1 on Apple Music debuted the single “Super Far”. It’s safe to say that LANY is putting in the work to release content for their fans.
LANY had their first ever arena performance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Philippines in 2018. In under 24 hours, tickets were sold out, prompting the addition of a second night of performing.
