Lana Del Rey has come of age. From not so auspicious beginnings to becoming one of the most popular names in music industry, she has certainly risen to the occasion. Del Rey has had to work and work hard for where she is now.

The journey wasn’t easy but Del Rey did not give up on her dreams. She began her journey as Lizzy Grant and her debut album failed to make an impact. She decided to make a few changes and it turned out to be a very wise decision. This incredibly gifted artist is now on tour and her live shows have evolved into something of a spectacle of their own. If you want to be a part of the experience, then book your Lana Del Rey tickets and watch her live in concert.

Early Life

Lana Del Rey’s real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant and she was born in NYC. Once she was done with high school, Del Rey was accepted to the State University of New York at Geneseo. She however had other plans and did not attend the university. Instead, she went on to spend time with her uncle and aunt who used to live at Long Island. Del Rey began working as a waitress and her uncle started to teach her how to play a guitar. It did not take her too long to learn how to play the instrument.

Lana Del Rey began to write her own songs and started to perform in nightclubs as “Sparkle Jump Rope Queen” and “Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena.” When she was nineteen years old, Del Rey got enrolled at the Fordham University. During her college days she used to do a lot of volunteer work. She went to an Indian reservation in Utah to help renovate and paint houses there. That is when she decided she was going to make music.

The Beginnings

Between 2005 and 2006, Del Rey went on to record “Sirens,” which was an acoustic album. She performed for the first time at the Williamsburg Songwriting Competition in 2006. It was at that performance that she met Van Wilson who used to work for 5 Points Records. Then the next year she recorded a demo tape titled “No Kung Fu” and sent it to 5 Points Records. It was an acoustic record and the label handed her first recording contract.

Del Rey relocated to New Jersey and began to work with David Kahne, the producer. She came out with an EP “Kill Kill” in October of 2008 as Lizzy Grant. She then released her self-titled debut studio album but it did not do too well. It was a setback and she then ended her contract with 5 Points Records.

A Star is Born

In 2011, Lana Del Rey uploaded videos of tracks Blue Jeans and Video Games on YouTube and they went viral in no time. Stranger Records signed her up and then released Video Games as her first single. That brought her way more recognition. The song went on to win a Q Award and an Ivor Novello. She then signed a recording contract with Polydor and Interscope Records. The time had come for Lana Del Rey to make her mark.

She came out with her second studio album titled “Born to Die” and it hit the music stores on January 31, 2012. The album turned out to be a massive hit. It received four stars out of five from The Guardian, The Observer and the Slant Magazine. It received praise from the critics but what happened at the commercial front was simply incredible.

Born to Die spent an incredible three hundred weeks on the Billboard 200, making it only one of three albums by a female star to achieve that feat. The album also went on to top the US Vinyl Albums, the US Top Alternative Albums, the US Top Rock Albums and the US Digital Albums charts. It went on to peak at the second position on the US Billboard 200. The record also went on to the number one spot in eleven other countries.

Born to Die has been certified two times platinum in Australia, Austria, Canada and Denmark among other countries. The record was also certified platinum in the US, Belgium, New Zealand, Russia and Spain.
