Electronic dance music traces its roots back to 1970s but it remained dormant for quite a while. EDM then began to raise its head in the late twentieth century. The advancement in technology gave EDM stars the tools to make the genre more appealing to the masses and with the addition of pyrotechnics and amalgamation of different sounds, it took on a whole new meaning.
A lot of stars have played their part in making EDM the global phenomenon that it is today. On that list is the name Kygo. The pioneer of tropical house, Kygo has changed the way EDM had been viewed by fans. He has brought about something of a revolution in electronic music in the short time he has been part of the music industry. Now he will soon hit the road and perform at festivals like Coachella. Not only that, but he will also go on a tour soon. Get ready to groove by booking your Kygo tickets now.
A Young Guy Falls in Love with Music
Kygo is Norwegian but he was born in Singapore. He was only six years old when he started to take piano lessons. That is when he fell in love with music for the first time. Kygo kept on taking piano lessons till he was fifteen or sixteen years old when he suddenly made the switch to composing melodies. It was an entirely different world but one that had him hooked instantly.
He kept on making melodies and then he got to hear Avicii and his life changed forever. Kygo was so inspired by Avicii’s music that he brought an MIDI keyboard and Logic Studio to compose electronic music of his own. However, he had to learn and teach himself how to do that. While he knew how to play the keyboard, using Logic Studio was a challenge in itself. Kygo began to spend a lot of time on YouTube in order to watch different tutorials. That is how he learned the basics of producing electronic music.
First Steps as a Musician
Kygo remixed the track Younger by Seinabo Sey in the year 2013 and it went to the number one spot in Norway. He then remixed I See Fire by Ed Sheeran and Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye. These two tracks brought his way even more recognition. Kygo was then given an international recording deal by Sony which meant that he went on RCA in the United States while his distribution and promotion rights in the UK went to Syco.
Then in December of 2014, Kygo released the song Firestone and it turned out to be an enormous hit all around the world. The track went to the number one spot in the United Kingdom, Poland, Norway, Lebanon, Hungary and Czech Republic. The track also cracked the Top 10 in nations like Austria, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. In the US, it made to the eighth spot on the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
Firestone was certified gold in the United States while it went platinum in the United Kingdom, Mexico, New Zealand, Germany and Belgium. It was certified five times platinum in Norway and Sweden. Firestone was certified diamond in France. It also went on to receive a whopping eighty million hits on SoundCloud and YouTube. That success brought him to the attention of Chris Martin and Avicii. They wanted Kygo to work with them to create a remixed version of the track Midnight.
More Success Comes Calling
In February of 2015, the official trailer of the Ultra Music Festival was released and it featured Kygo’s track ID. The next month saw Kygo release the single Stole the Show which amassed just short of one and a half million streams online in three weeks.
It also went to the number one spot in Sweden, Norway and France.
