The time has come for Kaleo to shine and show the world they have what it takes to reach the top of the mountain. Hailing from the nation of Iceland, they are now settled in the United States. This is where they wanted to be and now that they are in the US, they are making quite a lot of noise.
It is not easy for musical acts from small countries to come and make an impact in the US as quickly as they have. This is a testament to the kind of music they play. They have come out with their first studio album and now is the time for them to consolidate their position in the industry. The band will play plenty of shows this year and you can join in as they do that by simply booking your Kaleo tickets.
JJ Julius Son, Daniel Kristjansson and David Antonsson have known each other for a long time now. The three of them have been best friends since their elementary school days. The fourth member of the line-up, Rubin Pollock joined the fray in the year 2012 and the band was on its way.
The name of the band, “Kaleo” is Hawaiian for “the sound.” They went on to perform at the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival in November of 2012 which was also their first major appearance. Their cover of the track Vor í Vaglaskógi brought them a lot of recognition. The song began to be played on Iceland’s state radio channel “Ras 2” quite frequently. Then two years later, in 2014, their single titled All the Pretty Girls amassed over a staggering eighty seven million views on Spotify.
Move to the US
Kaleo’s music had begun to catch the attention of major record labels and as a result of that, they soon signed with Atlantic Records in the first half of 2015. That was also the year when they decided to relocate to the United States. They looked at different cities to set up camp and in the end it came down to Austin and Nashville. They picked the former.
They began to generate quite a lot of buzz right from the word go in the US. Their performance at the famous South by Southwest Festival in the year 2015 was good enough to land them a spot on Esquire’s list of the “40 Bands You Need to Hear.” In August of 2015, they released the track Way Down We Go and it very well. It went on to be certified platinum in the US and Australia while it went two times platinum in Canada. The track also went gold in the Germany, Poland and Austria.
The Debut Studio Album
Kaleo released their first studio album titled “A/B” in the year 2016. It received “positive” review from AllMusic and got seven out of ten stars from PopMatters. The record also went on to receive three stars out of five from Rolling Stone and four and a half stars out of five from Sound Fiction.
A/B peaked at the fourth spot on the US Top Rock Albums and at the sixteenth position on the US Billboard 200. It climbed to the second spot in Canada and to the sixth spot in Switzerland. The album has gone gold in France, Russia and Canada.
