Jimmy Buffet’s loyal Parrotheads have been following him for over 40 years now and the devoted fan base shows no signs of stopping with the support. Buffet’s probably best known for a duo of hits – Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise – both of which have since been spun off into some very successful restaurant chains. He tours with his Coral Reefer Band, playing their special brand of “drunken Caribbean rock and roll” to hoards of long time fans. Jimmy Buffet concerts nearly always feature “the Big 8,” eight songs that fans have come to expect as standards. What else comes standard at a Jimmy Buffet show is the vibe. Expect beach balls, expect hula skirts, leis, tropical drinks consumed in the parking lot. Expect a lot of Tommy Bahama shirts. That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it’ll always be at a Jimmy Buffet show. Jimmy’s banter is part of the attraction as he tells his war stories from the road before playing the hits for the umpteenth time, without it ever feeling old. Though the Jimmy Buffet fan demographic skews older than your average concert goer, the Hawaiian shirt-clad parents and grandparents party harder than the usual collegiate crowd. That’s thanks in no small part to the Parrothead mantra: “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!”
