Guaranteed Rate Field Tickets

With tons of cool features and attractions, Guaranteed Rate Field is worth the trip in and of itself: the baseball’s just a great bonus.
Guaranteed Rate Field is a Major League Baseball field in the baseball-hungry city of Chicago, Illinois. For those who are more familiar with Chicago's Comiskey Park, you will be happy to know that they are one in the same, as Comiskey Park was renamed Guaranteed Rate Field in 2003. Of course, there is some confusion in the fact that there were two Comiskey Parks.
The original Comiskey Park opened in 1910 and closed in 1990, when the new Comiskey Park was completed and opened. Then, in 2003, the new incarnation was renamed Guaranteed Rate Field. This park is actually owned by the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, but it is used and operated by the Chicago White Sox. The original cost of the stadium was around $167 million, and U.S. Cellular bought the naming rights for $68 million (over a twenty year span). It also hosted the Major League Baseball All Star game that same year, so U.S. Cellular immediately cashed in on their investment with some national publicity.

This new stadium, which seats 40,615, was built directly across the street from the original Comiskey Park, in Chicago's Armour Square neighborhood and near its Bridgeport neighborhood. The original Comiskey Park was, sadly but necessary, demolished to create room for a parking lot that serves the new Guaranteed Rate Field. As a nice touch, though, the old home plate of the original Comiskey Park is now a marble plaque on the sidewalk next to Guaranteed Rate Field, and the original foul lines are still painted in the parking lot.
