Unlike other EDM music artists, the melody comes before the beat for Galantis. The Swedish duo has come out of nowhere to make a massive impact on the industry. Their rise to stardom has been based on their joyful yet powerful sound and like music history has shown, you don’t go wrong when your sound is what does the talking for you.
Galantis hit the scene in the year 2012 and their debut EP arrived two years later. The world changed for them from that point onwards as they became the talk of the town. Now they are going to hit the road once again and this year, they will perform at events like the Ultra Music Festival and the Governors Ball. If you want to dance the night away, then grab your Galantis tickets and get ready to groove.
Galantis consists of Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklow. The two met totally by accident at the latter’s studio in Stockholm. This was back in the year 2007. Two years later, Miike Snow, which is Karlsson’s band, asked Eklow to remix their track Animal. Eklow DJs and goes by the name Style of Eye.
Karlsson and Eklow began to spend a lot of time together after that little collaboration. The two began to bounce ideas off each other but none of those really materialized into anything substantial. That is until a few years later.
In 2012, they got together again and decided to do things a little differently. While a lot of modern day dance music was being done using software and loop based methods, they decided to go down a different route. Karlsson used to start songs on a piano or a guitar and they decided that was how they were going to do things. They would start off with a simple arrangement for every song and then focus on other aspects. This unusual process of making music morphed into what is now Galantis.
The Early Impact
Galantis signed a record deal with Big Beat Records which was an imprint of Atlantic Records in the middle of 2013. They came out with their first single under Big Beat Records which was titled Smile in November of 2013. In February of 2014, they released another single titled You. That was followed by the release of their first extended play “Galantis.”
The duo then came out with the single Runaway (U & I) on October 5, 2014 and it became their first major hit. It peaked at the ninth spot on the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and at the number one spot on the UK Dance charts. The single also cracked the Top 10 in Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Scotland. Runaway (U & I) was also certified platinum in the US, UK, New Zealand and Belgium while it went double platinum in Australia and Norway.
The Studio Album Come Out
Galantis released their first studio album “Pharmacy” on June 8, 2015. The record went to No. 1 on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It also charted in multiple countries around the globe. That was followed by a summer tour in order to promote the record that saw Galantis perform twenty two shows in more than one continent.
Their next album was titled “The Aviary” and it hit the stores on September 15, 2017. The record went to the fourth spot on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums and made it to the same position in New Zealand. Their single No Money from the album became their first track to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song also made it to the Top 10 in the UK, Sweden, Poland, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Australia, Austria and Denmark. The song was certified platinum in the UK, Canada, and Australia. It also recorded gold level sales in the US, New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany.
