At their peak, Fall Out Boy was arguably the most popular band in the country—kings of a transformative rock style that consumed countless iPods and sold out stadiums. Their fans loved them to pieces, but everyone, regardless of musical affiliation, knew the songs and lyrics of Fall Out Boy.
From 2003 to 2008, their sound was inescapable. Then in 2009, Fall Out Boy announced that they would be taking an indefinite leave from music. The band’s members had decided to independently explore music’s landscape in search of success on their own.
Getting Back Together
Even though they may have been past their prime at the time, the announcement still staggered their loyal following. And to those who had come to know them as a supreme success, it was, at the very least, surprising. Then in February 2013, the band dramatically announced a comeback effort with the album Save Rock and Roll.
Save Rock and Roll is the band’s fifth studio album. Fall Out Boy began their careers with Take This to Your Grave in 2003 and then released From Under the Cork Tree in 2005, following those up with Infinity on High in 2007 and Folie a Deux in 2008.

Part of the reason Billboard chose to name them one of the 100 Best Artists of the 2000-2010 decade is their smash hit single “Dance, Dance.” The song was inescapable, taking on a life of its own after being released as the second single off of From Under the Cork Tree. And it eventually led to the band’s one and only Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist in 2006.
