Sheeran’s early influences are Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton and the album that first introduced him to music was Irish Heartbeat by Van Morrison. During his childhood years, his father took him to various live concerts of Paul McCartney and Damien Rice. Other artists that Sheeran cites as influences on his work include The Beatles, Nizlopi and Eminem. He released his first EP called No. 5 Collaborations Project, independently.
Breakthrough Music
Ed Sheeran started out by releasing an independent collection called Spinning Man. He played a gig in Cambridge and then moved to London. Here he started playing at small venues. He released another EP called You Need Me, in 2009 and embarked on a tour with Just Jack. In February 2010, he released his critically acclaimed EP called Loose Change thatfeatured his future debut single, “The A Team”. With his YouTube presence growing, Sheeran started getting noticed by various celebrities in the sports and entertainment industry. After this, he released his EP, No.5 Collaborations Project and gained mainstream attention.
International Success
Ed Sheeran’s breakthrough came with the release of his debut album under Asylum Records. The album called “+” was released in September 2011 and has since been certified seven times platinum in his home country. The single “The A Team” from this album became a hit and won Sheeran the Ivor Novello Award for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically. Singles “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” and “Lego House” also peaked charts in various countries. The album received largely favorable reviews from music critics and debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, selling over 102,000 copies. As of March 2012, the album had sold almost 1,021,072 copies in the UK alone.
