About Earl Sweatshirt
Earl Sweatshirt, or Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, is a rapper from Los Angeles, CA. He was discovered by Tyler, the Creator in 2009 and joined Tyler’s rap group, Odd Future shortly after. Joining the group brought mainstream media attention and at just 16 years old, the rapper released his debut mixtape, Earl. The mixtape was well received and even made Complex’s list of best albums of 2010.
Earl Sweatshirt first started rapping in the 8th grade under the name Sly Tendencies. He started promoting his work on MySpace which is how Tyler found the young rapper. The rapper later changed his name to Earl Sweatshirt and started recording new music. Tyler, the Creator produced the artists debut mixtape, Earl, which was self-released in March of 2010. Despite great reviews from critics and fans, Earl Sweatshirt was forced to stop making music after his mother sent him to a reform school in Samoa. After returning to the U.S. after his eighteenth birthday, Earl rejoined Odd Future and started making music again.
