Coming off Peyton Manning’s 2013 record-breaking season and a disappointing Super Bowl XLVII loss, the mantra for the Denver Broncos in 2014 is clear: Super Bowl Champions or bust. Here’s what fans can expect:
In the wake of their 43-8 Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks, John Elway and head coach John Fox made aggressive off-season moves in hopes of hoisting the Lombardi trophy in February. A busy free agency resulted in three huge defensive veterans joining the team. Between them, DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward have 9 Pro Bowl appearances and will anchor a solid Broncos defense. Gone are offensive weapons Eric Decker & Knowshon Moreno, along with defensive players Champ Bailey and Wesley Woodyard, but talented second year Running Back Montee Ball and new addition Wide Receivers Emmanuel Sanders (Pittsburgh Steelers) and rookie Cody Latimer (Indiana) are poised to breakout under a pass-heavy Manning offense.
Return of the Orange Crush
In adding three Pro-Bowl defensive players, the Broncos defensive unit coached by Jack Del Rio is aiming to revive the Orange Crush mentality that led Elway and the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl wins. In particular, the addition of Talib – who is widely considered one of the best shutdown corners in the game, along with Safety T.J. Ward, the secondary wants to strike fear in opposing offenses. Coupled with a rejuvenated pass rush that will again include sack leader Von Miller, who missed much of last season with an ACL injury, the Broncos defense will be a force to be reckoned with.
On the offensive side of the ball, Peyton Manning has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Returning favorite targets Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and Julius Thomas are back and with additional receivers Sanders and Latimer, look for Manning to rival his 2013 record-breaking season of 55 TDs and 5477 total passing yards, both all-time career bests.
Experience Mile High
Due to its location and altitude of one mile above sea level, Sports Authority Field at Mile High gives the Broncos an advantage most teams struggle with. Surrounded by the picturesque Rocky Mountains, the experience at Mile High is unlike any other. Expect big things from a loaded Peyton Manning offense and a Broncos defense that will wreak havoc on opponents all season long. A back-to-back Super Bowl appearance is no easy task, but the Broncos have all the pieces to be there again in 2014. Don’t miss a minute of Broncos action. Save on every ticket, every day with ScoreBig.
