D.C. United makes a strong case to be considered the most successful franchise in MLS history, rivaled only the L.A. Galaxy . One of the ten charter members of MLS, DC United played their inaugural season in 1996 and they've been contending for championships ever since.
In 2014, D.C. United won the MLS Eastern Conference. To date, D.C. United has won four MLS Cups to go along with three U.S. Open Cups and four Supporters' Shields. In international competition, D.C. United has competed in the CONCACAF Champions League and won the 1998 CONCACAF Champions Cup. D.C. United is also the only American club to ever compete in the CONMEBOL tournament.
A Proud Tradition
Playing their home games in historic Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium before four distinct supporters' clubs and one of the highest attendance averages in all of MLS, D.C. United enjoys unparalleled fan support. With pre-game tailgates and boisterous singing during matches, it's always an epic good time at a D.C. United home game.
Contributing to the club's winning tradition, D.C. United has been home to some of the greatest stars in MLS history including superstar Jaime Moreno (the club's all-time leader in nine statistical categories, including goals and assists), Marco Etcheverry (MLS MVP in 1998), Eddie Pope (MLS Defender of the Year in 1997), Luciano Emilio (MLS MVP in 2007), and, most recently, Dwayne De Rosario (a four-time Canadian player of the Year and MLS MVP in 2011).
