The Cleveland Browns have one of the most loyal, appreciative fan bases in all of sports. This fan phenomenon can easily be explained by the franchise's illustrious history. Before the Super Bowl era, the Browns won an incredible eight championships.
They were dominant, rolling out such Hall of Fame talents as Jim Brown (arguably the greatest football player who ever lived) and Otto Graham.
A Second Act
In 1996, owner Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore, taking on the new style, the Baltimore Ravens . Cleveland went three years without an NFL representative before serving as an expansion team in 1999. Since, they've had six head coaches and are currently on their ninth starting quarterback, Brandon Weeden. In 2002, they made their only playoff appearance of this second era, suffering a heart-breaking Wild Card round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Did You Know…
The Browns' current stadium, known as FirstEnergy Stadium, was built to reflect the team's original roots at Cleveland Municipal Stadium by Lake Eerie. Like Municipal Stadium, FirstEnergy runs east to west. It was built in 1999 when Cleveland won a bid for an expansion team.
