The Cain’s Ballroom is not only a historic venue. This is a ballroom that helped shape the musical legacy of Tulsa. Like most historic venues around, the Cain’s Ballroom has a story to tell and it is a story worth listening to as well.
The Cain’s Ballroom is now a world famous performance venue. Bob Wills, Hank Williams, U2, The Police and Merle Haggard among others have all performed here.
This year promises to be another stellar one for the Cain’s Ballroom. If you want to see the stars light up this historic venue this season, then book your Cains Ballroom tickets now.
The Early Days
The Cain’s Ballroom traces its roots back to the year 1924 when Tate Brady built it. Brady was a businessman from Tulsa and he opened the venue as a garage. The name of the venue was soon changed to “The Louvre” and it became accessible to the general public.
Then in the year 1930, Madison “Daddy” Cain bought the place and renamed it “Cain’s Dance Academy.” The dance academy became quite popular and to attract more people, the venue began to bring on board different musical acts to come and perform there. One of the first performers to perform at the venue was none other than the legendary Bob Wills. His band the Texas Playboys began to broadcast their radio show from Cain’s. Wills became synonymous with the Cain’s Ballroom to an extent that the place began to be called “The Home of Bob Wills.”
From a period between 1935 and 1942, the Cain’s Ballroom and Wills began to dazzle people. The sound known as western sing was made popular by Wills and his sessions, performances and radio broadcasts from the venue.
Dark Times and Revival
By the time 1960s came to town, the arrival of Rock and Roll changed the musical landscape drastically. People were swaying towards rock and as a result of that in the second half of the 1960s the ballroom had to be shut down. Then in 1972, it was bought by Marie Mayers with plans of re-opening the Cain’s as a dance hall. That idea enjoyed limited success.
Mayers sold the venue in 1976 and it was bought by Larry Shaeffer who himself used to invest in rock concerts. He set his eyes on reviving not only the original structure but also the elements that made it famous in the first place. In 1977, the Cain’s Ballroom opened once again and Elvin Bishop performed there on the big night. The Sex Pistols then performed there in 1978 and Cain’s Ballroom’s reputation began to soar once again. The Cain’s popularity has never taken a dip since then.
The 2018 Itinerary
Here is a list of just a few names that will turn up at the Cain’s Ballroom in 2018:
Blackberry Smoke
Blackberry Smoke have made quite an impact since coming onto the scene. They have had to earn their stripes though as it took them a while to get going. Their first two albums failed to chart.
Their third album was titled “The Whippoorwill” and it hit the music stores in August of 2012. It went on to peak at the tenth spot on the US Independent Albums and at the twelfth position on the US Top Rock Albums charts. Their next album was titled “Holding All the Roses” and it went to the first spot on the US Top Country Albums chart. Their fifth and most recent album was titled “Like an Arrow” and it peaked at the first position on the US Folk Albums chart and the US Top Country Albums chart. It also went to the twelfth spot on the US Billboard 200.
Nothing More
Formed in the year 2003, Nothing More have begun to make some serious noise. Their self-titled fourth album is the one that really kicked off their journey. The record went on to peak at the eleventh spot on the US Rock Albums, at the eighth position on the US Independent Albums and at the third spot on the US Hard Rock Albums charts.
They followed that up by releasing “The Stories We Tell Ourselves” which turned out to be an even bigger hit. The record peaked at the second position on both the US Independent Albums and the US Top Hard Rock Albums charts. It also earned not one, not two but three Grammy nominations.
Keys N Krates
Keys N Krates come from Canada and the electronic music group has made huge strides forward in the last few years. Interestingly, they began their journey as a hip-hop ensemble. They came out with their debut EP titled “Blackout” in the year 2011 and have released four extended plays since then. Keys N Krates have also won a Juno Award and a Much Music Video Award. Their 2013 single Dum Dee Dum has also been certified gold in the United States.
Sylvan Esso
Sylvan Esso will also step on the stage at the Cain’s Ballroom this year for an epic performance. The EDM star has seen his stock rise in the last few years. A lot of that has to do with the release of his debut self-titled album. “Sylvan Esso” hit the music stores in the year 2014 and went on to peak at the fourth spot on the US Top Electronic Albums chart. It also went on to peak at the ninth position on the US Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums chart and at the seventh position on the US Top Independent Albums chart.
Excision, Monxx, Dion Timmer and Liquid Stranger
It looks like the Cain’s Ballroom will have plenty for fans of electronic music to enjoy over the next few months. The DJ known as Excision will also make his way to the venue this year. And he certainly will not be coming alone. He will be joined by the likes of Monxx, Dion Timmer and Liquid Stranger for what promises to be a concert worth attending.
This year’s line-up of events at the Cain’s Ballroom covers almost every music genre that there is. All you have to do now is book your Cains Ballroom tickets and watch your favorite star perform, live right in front of you.
