After a whirlwind few years, the rock ensemble Breaking Benjamin is now getting things back on track once again. They burst onto the music scene at the turn of the century with a sound that was as unique as it was genre defying. Then like it has happened to a lot of musical acts over the years, they hit a rough patch. Now the band is back in town and it means business.

Now Breaking Benjamin will be teaming up with Avenged Sevenfold to go on the latter’s “The Stage World Tour” for the first few North American dates. They will also be joined by Bullet for My Valentine and together the three of them will perform multiple shows across the US. They will most probably have something else planned for the year too. Book your Breaking Benjamin tickets and watch them in their element, live.

The Start

Benjamin Burnley used to be a member of a band named Breaking Benjamin in the year 1998. That group used to play covers of tracks by The Beatles and Weezer. The lineup of that band used to consist of Chris Lightcap, Nick Hoover and Aaron Fink. That group however did not last for too long and broke up when Burnley decided to relocate to California.

Benjamin Burnley made his return to Pennsylvania and incepted Plan 9 with Jeremy Hummel and Jason Davoli. They returned to the title of Breaking Benjamin soon afterwards though. The three of them first began to get some recognition when Freddie Fabbri, a DJ on WBSX the radio station began to play their song Polyamorous. The track soon became the number one requested track on the station and that is when Fabbri decided to provide the funds for the band’s self-titled debut EP.

“Breaking Benjamin” went on to sell each and every one of the two thousand copies that were printed in the year 2001. Davoli however left the band and he was replaced by Jonathan Price. Mark Klepaski and Aaron Fink were not enjoying playing with their band so the two of them left and joined Breaking Benjamin. They had begun to make some noise and in the early part of the year 2002, they landed their first recording contract.

The Stars Arrive

They soon hit the studio and started working on their debut studio LP titled “Saturate.” The album came out on August 27, 2002 and went on to peak at the second spot on the US Top Heatseekers chart. It was eventually certified gold in the United States.

It came out on June 8, 2004 and became their first album to record platinum level sales in the country. It peaked at the twentieth spot on the US Billboard 200 and went to as high as the fourteenth position in New Zealand. Breaking Benjamin then went on to tour with the likes of Three Days Grace, Seether and Evanescence.

In November of 2004, they released a single Blow Me Away that wasn’t part of their albums. It did quite well and was certified gold in the US. The band came out with an extended play titled “So Cold EP” the same month. Jeremy Hummel then left the band and his place was taken by Chad Szeliga on the line-up.

Consolidating Their Position

Breaking Benjamin then went to work on their third studio album, “Phobia.” The record came out on August 8, 2006 in the US and on November 21, 2007 in Europe. The record did quite well on the charts. Phobia also reached third spot on the US Billboard Tastemakers Albums chart. It also received three and a half stars out of five from AllMusic and eventually went on to sell in excess of a million copies to become Breaking Benjamin’s second straight platinum certified album.

The band began work on their next album “Dear Agony” in the year 2009. The record hit the music stores on September 29, 2009 and received three stars out of five from AllMusic and a three out of five rating at Sputnikmusic. On the commercial front however, it was a different story altogether.

The record also peaked at the fourth position on the US Billboard 200. The LP sold in excess of a million copies in the United States and was certified platinum as a result by the RIAA. It was Breaking Benjamin’s third successive platinum certified album.

In August of 2011, their label Hollywood Records decided to come out with a compilation record titled “Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin.” The record went on to peak at the twenty second spot on the US Billboard 200 and topped the Hard Rock Albums chart.
