To this day, Boyz II Men remains one of the most iconic R&B bands in the history of music. The group is credited with having redefined the boundaries of popular R&B by creating timeless masterpieces that appeal to fans across all generations. Throughout their 25-year career, the group penned down some of the most flawless classics and the most recognizable tunes.
The multiple award winning trio recently released a Doo-Wop album, Under The Streetlight. The album was released in October 2017 and is a timeless selection of songs. Talking about this album, band member Nathan Morris said, "Growing up and experiencing doo-wop music definitely influenced Boyz II Men's sound. Under the Streetlight has been a passion project that we've wanted to create for a while to bring us back to our roots and make the music that inspired us when we first started the group."
Even though the group just wrapped up a sold out tour with Paula Abdul and New Kids on the Block, fans can get these Boyz II Men tickets to catch them live in action. They will be having multiple performances as part of their ongoing residency at the famous Mirage in Las Vegas and as part of their global tour.
Early Years and Music
The group first started out with the name Unique Attraction and comprised of Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson, along with schoolmates George Baldi, Marguerite Walker and Jon Shoats. After multiple lineup changes, the current group members include Nathan Morris with Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman.
In the early days, the newly formed group used to rehearse in their school bathrooms, because of the better acoustics there. After getting the chance to perform at a Valentine’s Day party in school in 1989, the group finally got its big break after they managed to go backstage at a New Edition concert and impress its band members. One of the members of New Edition, Michael Bivins gave the band their number and agreed to manage and help produce for the group.
Before they began recording, Marc Nelson parted ways with the group, leaving only four members behind at the time.
Cooleyhighharmony and Breakthrough
The group released its first album called Cooleyhighharmony in 1991 on Motown. The unique sound experimentations on this album made Boyz II Men an instant hit, selling more than nine million copies and winning a Grammy Award at the 1992 ceremony.
Soon after the release, the group went on a tour as an opening act for MC Hammer. More success followed as the band released another single “End of the Road” in the midst of their tour, as a soundtrack for Eddie Murphy’s film, Boomerang. Released in June 1992, the single became Boyz II Men’s biggest hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in less than a month. The success from this single is what converted Boyz II Men from a rising R&B group to mainstream music personalities.
More Music and More Success
Following the massive success of their debut album, tour and “End of the Road”, Boyz II Men headed back into the studio for their highly awaited second album. II was released in 1994 and managed to sell more than 12 million copies in the US alone. Rising in the charts rapidly, the album became one of the biggest musical masterpieces of the decade. The track “I’ll Make Love To You” surpassed “End of the Road” in fame as it broke the 13-week number 1 record set by the latter.
The next album, Evolution, was also a big success, selling three million copies. Even though it did not achieve the level of fame that the first two albums did, it still produced some really amazing chart-topping singles. “Four Seasons of Loneliness” from this album reached Number 1 on the Hot 100 and “A Song For Mama” was also a Top 10 hit. Evolution was very successful in terms of ticket sales.
Recent Work of Boyz II Men

Over the course of their long and illustrious career, the trio has won many awards and honors. The 4 Grammy Awards they have to their name are really just the tip of the iceberg. Boyz II Men have also won an impressive 9 American Music Awards, 3 Billboard Music Awards, 9 Soul Train Awards and also a MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2011. The group received its star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January 2012 and also received a Casino Entertainment Award for their outstanding residency at the Mirage Resort in Las Vegas, which started back in 2013 and is continuing on till today.
