Born in Ada, Oklahoma, on June 18, 1976, Blake Shelton began singing at the age of twelve. He learnt the skill of guitar playing from his uncle. At fifteen years of age, Shelton wrote his first song. Soon he garnered statewide acclaim and was honored with the Denbo Diamond Award, the top honor for young entertainers in his home state, Oklahoma. Just two weeks after finishing high school in 1994, Shelton moved to Nashville to pursue a professional career as a songwriter.
