The Formative Years
Born in Savannah, Georgia, Billy Currington made the move to Nashville after finishing high school to kick-start his country music journey. That did not last for long but Currington never gave up and returned to the Music City a while later. This time he found a job in a concrete company and that gave him the foundation to start performing in small clubs on the side.
Not only that, but he also began to work as a personal trainer. A client of his helped him record a few demo tapes and write songs. His struggle paid off in the year 2003 and he signed a recording contract with Mercury Records.
Success Comes Calling
Billy Currington released his debut self-titled album on September 30, 2003. The first single was titled Walk a Little Straighter and it became Currington’s first Top 10 hit as it went to peak at the eighth spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He then came out with his second single titled I Got a Feelin. The track was also from his debut studio album and it turned out to be an even bigger hit as it peaked at the fifth spot on the US Hot Country Songs.
He was just getting started.
Billy Currington released his second album titled “Doin’ Somethin’ Right” on October 18, 2005. It received four and a half stars out of five from AllMusic and peaked at the second position on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The record also climbed to the eleventh position on the Billboard 200. Two singles from the album Must be Doin’ Somethin’ Right and Good Directions climbed to the number one spot. The album sold well over a million copies to go platinum in the US.
The Hits Keep On Coming
