Led by Caleb Shomo, Beartooth is a renowned American hardcore punk band. Shomo formed it as a “different musical outlet” while he was the lead singer for the band, Attack! Attack! After parting ways with Attack! Attack! Beartooth became his main gig in 2012.

The current lineup of the Ohio-based band includes Taylor Lumley, Connor Denis, Oshie Bichar and Kamron Bradbury with Caleb Shomo as frontman. Since the band’s debut in 2013, they have produced hit songs such as I Have a Problem, Go Be the Voice and Sick of Me. If you want to enjoy their hits live, wait no more to get your hands on Beartooth tickets.

The Beginning

Caleb Shomo initially played as part of the metalcore band, Attack! Attack! He was still its member when he started writing songs for Beartooth. Shomo said that Beartooth “started as a joke band’ as a way to unwind and have fun playing music without any kind of pressure. The band was originally named Noise but changed to Beartooth upon realizing that another band had already taken the name Noise. But Shomo never intended to go professional with Beartooth. It was after he parted ways with Attack! Attack! that he began taking the project seriously. He has admitted that the results they’ve produced as Beartooth have surpassed his wildest expectations.

The first Beartooth song Caleb Shomo wrote was Set Me On Fire. It was followed by songs including I Have a Problem, Go Be The Voice and Pick Your Poison all of which were released in December of 2012.  The band uploaded a live music video of the song I Have a Problem following which they announced kickstarting a concert tour. This brought them much attention and in June of 2013, Beartooth signed a deal with Red Bull Records.

Contributions

On July 26, 2013, Beartooth released their debut EP titled Sick on their website for free. It had Caleb Shomo produce, sing and play all the instruments. The following month, Beartooth released a new music video for the song I Have a Problem and in November the video for Go Be The Voice came out. Towards the end of the year, the band was confirmed to play at the Warped Tour 2014 alongside well-known music acts such as Saves the Day, The Ghost Inside, The Mighty and A Skylit Drive.

In early 2014, Kamron Bradbury joined Beartooth and Oshie Bichar replaced Nick Reed as the band’s new bassist. In April, the band released a live music video for the track Dead, set to appear on their new music album, Disgusting. The following month, the record’s release date and track-listing were revealed on Facebook. The first single from the album Beaten In Lips and its music video came out the same day. Disgusting was available for online streaming a day before its official release. As with the EP Sick, Caleb Shomo produced, sung and played all the instruments in Disgusting, with the exception of In Between, which was co-produced by John Feldmann.

While talking about the making of the album, Shomo stated that he wrote its lyrics when he was going through a difficult time with Attack! Attack! and thus they reflect his honest emotions. He also said that the recording process was quite smooth as he had a studio in his house. The songs on the record convey very strong messages. For example, Beaten In Lips touches upon the sensitive topic of child abuse, encouraging victims to live a proud life. Another song titled Relapsing deals with the subject of alcoholism. Although many thought that the song I Have a Problem was also about alcoholism, it’s actually about Shomo quitting the band Attack! Attack! The singer said that he wrote I Have a Problem a day after he left Attack! Attack!

In the years 2014 and 2015, Beartooth performed several supporting as well as headlining acts. From Download and Slam Dunk festivals to the Kerrang! Tour and from the US to the UK, the band utilized every opportunity to the best and garnered a cult fan following along the way.

In August of 2015, Beartooth performed at the Reading and Leeds festivals and later in November performed as the headlining act in the UK. On the following April Fools’ Day, they played a prank on their fans by releasing a ‘swingcore jazz’ version of the track Dead and stated that it was their brand new music material. Three days later, Beartooth announced the departure of drummer Brandon Mullins from the band and assured their fans that it would not affect their upcoming tours in any way.

In April, 2016, news leaked that Beartooth is set to release its second studio album, Aggressive, on June 3. Later that day, the band confirmed the title of the album and premiered its title song on Sirius XM’s Octane channel. The record was released via UNFD and Red Bull Records on June 3, 2016. From upbeat tracks such as Rock is Dead and Hated to the heavy and intense Burnout and Always Dead, the record is a treat to listen to. With Aggressive, Beartooth has indeed raised the bar for their own music in the future.
