Getting a strong foothold in an industry as competitive as music is no easy task. It gets even more difficult when you are starting all over again a short while after debuting. That is exactly what the alternative rock/punk band, Bayside had to do.
They overcame those obstacles and now are among the most famous bands in the business. It is hard to believe that it has been over seventeen years since they first burst onto the scene. They have released multiple studio albums and have performed at some very famous venues over the course of their illustrious career. This year promises to be another special one for them. If you want to join them on the ride, then grab your Bayside concert tickets now.
Bayside trace their roots back to the year 2000 when Mike Kozak and Anthony Raneri came together to form the band in October of that year. They came out with a demo that contained five songs and then released an EP titled “Long Stories Short EP” in the year 2001. That was followed by another extended play two years later titled “Bayside/Name Taken.”
Then right at the beginning of 2004, on January 27th Bayside came out with their first studio album “Sirens and Condolences.” While it did reasonably well on the critical front, the record failed to make an impact commercially.
The Next Album and Tragedy
Bayside then released a self-titled album on August 23, 2005, but soon after a tragedy struck them. They went on a tour to promote the record but their van met an accident when it hit an ice patch and lost control. The vehicle flipped over, killing the band’s drummer, John Holohan and seriously injuring Nick Ghanbarian, the bassist. The other two band mates Jack O’ Shea and Anthony Raneri were not seriously injured.
Naturally some shows were cancelled as a result of the tragic accident but Raneri and O’ Shea then went on an acoustic tour all by themselves. They also came out with an EP titled “Acoustic” in 2006 that contained a track Winter which was the band’s tribute to Holohan.
Time to Get Going Again
Bayside then released their next studio album titled “The Walking Wounded” on February 6, 2007 and it turned out to be a big critical hit. AllMusic, Rolling Stone and Punknews.org gave it three and a half stars out of five. It also received four stars out of five from RebelPunk.
“Shudder” was the name of their next album and it hit the music stores on September 30, 2008. It was another critical hit. In May of 2009, Bayside went on to perform at the Bamboozle Festival for the third time in their history. They also went to the famous Vans Warped Tour for the fourth time.
They spent a big chunk of 2010 working on their next album “Killing Time” which came out on February 22, 2011. The record received four stars out of five from AllMusic while Sputnikmusic gave it three and a half out of five. It also received an 8.5 out of 10 rating over at IGN.
More Critical Success
Bayside released their next studio album “Cult” on February 18, 2014 and it was another addition to their collection of critical successes. The record received four stars out of five from both AllMusic and Punknews.org and over at AbsolutePunk it got an 8.3 out of 10 rating.
In March of 2015, Bayside kicked off a tour to celebrate their fifteen years in the industry. They were joined on the road trip by Seaway, Man Overboard and Senses Fail. They went on another tour in August of the same year. They were supported by Better Off and The Early November on that particular tour.
Bayside released their seventh studio record titled “Vacancy” on August 19, 2016. The album peaked at the sixty ninth spot on the US Billboard 200 and went to the second position on the US Billboard Vinyl Albums chart. Vacancy also received three and a half stars out of five from AllMusic. The record also received four stars out of five from both punknews.org and Sputnikmusic.
