This inspired him to follow his dreams of becoming a rapper more seriously and soon, he began to develop his sound by taking musical influences from hip-hop stars like, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, UGK and Run DMC.
ASAP Rocky later moved to Midtown Manhattan. In 2007, he became a member of the A$AP Mob, a Harlem-based group of rappers, music directors, designers, bikers and producers who shared similar interest in music, arts and fashion. After four years, Rocky released his song, Purple Swag which immediately became a club banger in New York City. He then dropped the music video of the track which caught the eye of many record companies including RCA Records who signed him to the label.
