ASAP Ferg is a style icon who is blessed with a special gift of songwriting. His passion for hip-hop music began to develop in 2009 and before long, he chose to pursue rapping as his career after getting influenced by stars like Missy Elliot, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Onyx and N.E.R.D. ASAP Ferg rose to prominence when he won his first BET Hip Hop Award for ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2013 and since then this New York based MC never looked back.
Over the years, ASAP Ferg has put out many catchy singles including, Old English, Let it Bang and East Coast. In addition, he is credited for recording guest verses on famous songs like, Lotta That by G-Eazy, Don’t Wanna Dance by Elle Varner, Villain by Liam Bailey, B Boy by Meek Mill and My Song 5 by Hiam. How it All Began
Born in Harlem as Darold D. Brown Ferguson, Jr., in 1988, ASAP Ferg didn’t always wanted to be a rapper. In fact, he was more interested in fashion business and launched his clothing line, Devoni Clothing in 2005. He also designed high-end belts which have been worn by artists like, Diggy Simons, Swizz Beats and Chris Brown.
In 2009, however, Ferg decided to pursue a career in rap music and joined the hip-hop group, A$AP Mob. To get things rolling, the band put out its first mixtape in 2012 as a free download titled, ‘Lords Never Worry.’ It received mixed reviews from the critics and included guest appearances from Jim Jones, Flatbush Zombies, Danny Brown, Gunplay, Raekwon and Fat Trel. The mixtape contained eighteen songs including, Ferg’s debut single, Work. Produced by Fly and Chinza, the track quickly gained popularity and made it to Complex’s list of the ’50 Best Songs of 2012.’
On January 10, 2013, Ferg was signed with Polo Grounds and RCA Records. He then announced that his first solo studio effort, ‘Trap Lord’ will be hitting the shelves later in the year. In the meantime, Ferg churned out the remix version of his song, Work, which featured rappers, French Montana, A$AP Rocky, Trinidad James and Schoolboy Q. He then released, ‘Trap Lord’ which got everyone’s attention. The album landed at the ninth spot on the Billboard 200 and yielded three singles out of which, Shabba went gold in the U.S.
Rolling in the Right Direction
In 2014, ASAP Ferg came out with his critically acclaimed mixtape, ‘Ferg Forever.’ It was loaded with nineteen fresh songs including, Dope Walk, whose music video was released on February 25, 2015. So far, it has been viewed more than three hundred thousand times on YouTube. In the same year, Ferg began to record his sophomore studio effort, ‘Always Strive and Prosper’, which came out in April of 2016. The record reached the second spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and received four stars out of five from AllMusic, XXL and The Guardian. It was supported by two singles, New Love and Back Hurt, out of which the former became his second gold single.
Four months later, he started working with ASAP Mob and released the group’s debut studio album, ‘Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends.’ It did well on the music charts and climbed the thirteenth spot on the Billboard 200. It also spawned four singles out of which, Yamborghini High turned out to be extremely successful. It premiered on Drake’s Beat 1 show, ‘OVO Sound Radio’ and entered the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles at seventh spot.
Achieving International Stardom
ASAP Ferg kicked off 2017 with a bang by putting out his second mixtape, ‘Still Striving.’ Apart from becoming a hit in his native United States, it also made waves in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France and New Zealand. The mixtape received 65/100 rating from Metacritic and offered three singles, Plain Jane, Nasty (Who Dat) and East Coast (Remix) all of which became international hits. The former peaked at the sixteenth spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
He was then seen contributing songs to ASAP Mob’s second studio record, ‘Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy’ which dropped on August 25, 2017. The album was able to wow the critics as well as the rap fans from around the world and climbed the sixth and fourth spot on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums respectively. Moreover, it contained fifteen collaborative tracks with the likes of, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Quavo, Frank Ocean, Chief Keef, Pro Era, Big Sean and Lil Yachty.
ASAP Ferg Tour Tickets
In the fall of 2017, ASAP Ferg announced that he will be hitting the road for his, ‘Mad Man Tour’ and will be bringing IDK and Denzel Curry along for the ride. He is scheduled to perform thirty three shows in total and is scheduled to begin the road trip in the February of 2018 by playing his first gig at The Fillmore in Philadelphia. From there, Ferg will go on to rock the stage in main cities like, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston and Jacksonville before he ends his trek by performing his last concert of the trek at the Terminal 5 in New York.
