Allstate Arena – History

Owned by the Village of Rosemont, Allstate Arena broke ground almost 40 years ago. Serving as one of the biggest indoor entertainment facilities in the Chicago area, the Rosemont Horizon, as it was initially called, was to be the home of the ice hockey franchise, the Chicago Cougars. Even though the team folded well before the arena opened its doors, there were many other tenants lined up to make the arena their home.

The run started in 1980 with the Major Indoor Soccer League team, the Chicago Horizon. The same year DePaul Blue Demons of the NCAA set up base at the Rosemont Horizon. They ended their tenancy in 2017. Today, the multi-purpose arena is the home of the American Hockey League’s franchise, the Chicago Wolves.

The arena was inaugurated with a performance by the Rock n Roll Hall of Famers Fleetwood Mac. A red ribbon was cut by the famous rock quintet which was followed by the live rendition of the songs from their 12th album “Tusk”.

In 1999, the insurance company Allstate signed 10 years contract which gave them the naming rights. Hence, Rosemont Horizon was rechristened as the Allstate Arena.
