Adam Lambert was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 29, 1982. Soon after, his family relocated to San Diego, California. Lambert was ten years old when he was casted in the Lyceum theater’s production of the musical comedy You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He played the role of Linus which was highly praised by the audience. Lambert enjoyed the stage experience tremendously and began taking private voice lessons to improve his vocal skills. He appeared in numerous musicals thereafter. These include Grease and Chess and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor. His mentors during this time were the artistic director of the Children’s Theatre Network Alex Urban and his voice coach, Lynne Broyles.
Adam Lambert went to the Mount Carmel High School in San Diego. There he took part in choir and theater and also became a member of a jazz band. After high school, Lambert relocated to Orange County to attend college. He attended the California State University for five weeks but then changed his mind and quit studying to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. In one of his interviews he stated, “I just decided that what I really wanted to do was try to work in the real entertainment world. Life is all about taking risks to get what you want.”
The young aspiring artist relocated to Los Angeles where he worked odd jobs to make ends meet while at the same time trying to make it in theater. He also did some studio session work and performed as part of a rock music band.
By the year 2004, Lambert had become a well-known name in Los Angeles. He played a small part in The Ten Commandments alongside Val Kilmer at the Kodak Theatre. He also began regular gigs in the live music revue, The Zodiac Show. During his stint with Zodiac, Lambert impressed many with his vocal range. He also started writing his own songs with the revue. These include Crawl Through Fire which was written in collaboration with guitarist, Monte Pittman.
In the year 2005, Adam Lambert had the chance to play Fiyero in the play Wicked. He first performed with the touring cast and later with the Los Angeles cast of the production.
In 2009, Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol Season 8 in San Francisco. By covering hit songs such as I Can’t Get No Satisfaction, Some Kind of Wonderful, Rock With You and Believe, he easily made it to the thirteen final contestants.
