The Spectrum Center (formerly Time Warner Cable Arena) is home to live NBA action by way of Charlotte Hornets tickets of the NBA and is located in center city Charlotte, North Carolina. The arena opened in October of 2005 and has hosted hundreds of concerts and other sporting events since then.
The very first event at the arena was a concert by the Rolling Stones. It hosted its first NBA game on November 5, 2005. Its original name was the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. It has a Daktronics video board that measures 16 feet by 28 feet. It is known as "Hornets TV." The city of Charlotte owns the arena and the Hornets operate it on a daily basis. The name changed to Time Warner Cable Arena in April of 2008.
Notable events other than sports have occurred at the Spectrum Center, including concerts, circuses, television shoots, comedy shows, political events and NASCAR events.
The 20,800 seat arena was built specifically for the Hornets, who were founded in 2004, and replaced the Charlotte Coliseum. The Bobcats came into the NBA after the original Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans following the 2001-2002 season.
Getting There and Getting In
Parking & Directions
It is very easy to get to the arena, whether this occurs via car, bus, train or taxi. If you arrive to the arena via car, there are some 30,000 parking spots off the street within a 15 minute walk of the arena.
Fans can take the Lynx train to the Trade Street Station at the arena after parking their vehicles at the park & ride lots.
If you are coming from outside of the city, I-77 and I-85 are your best bets. For those coming to the arena from inside the city, I-277 (Brookshire Freeway), is an excellent option.
