Early Days
Born in Glen Dale, West Virginia, on October 28, 1972, Brad Douglas Paisley discovered his passion for music when his grandfather gifted him a guitar at the age of eight. By the time he was twelve, Paisley was taking part in church choirs and civic meetings. Soon he began performing as part of a band and also started to write his own material. Not long after, Paisley earned a spot on a popular country radio show of the time, Jamboree USA. He was an instant hit with the listeners owing to which he was invited to join the show as a full-time musician.
While getting noticed as an up-and-coming country music star, Paisley did not neglect his studies. After two years of education at the West Liberty State College in West Virginia, Paisley transferred to the Belmont University in Nashville. Here he had the opportunity to study under the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers scholarship. He also got introduced to Kelly Lovelace and Frank Rogers both of whom helped Paisley later on in his career.
Just a week after his graduation, Paisley signed a deal with EMI Records as a songwriter. His first success was a song ‘Another You’ which he wrote for singer David Kersh in 1996.
Debut
Brad Paisley signed a contract with Arista Nashville under which he released his debut solo record Who Needs Pictures in 1999. The album spawned the number one hit He Didn’t Have to Be which was followed by another chart topping single We Danced. Other popular singles off the album included Me Neither and the title track.
The record sold over one million copies and shot Paisley to superstardom. It also won Paisley the Academy of Country Music Award for Best New Male Vocalist. Besides he was also honored with the prestigious Horizon Award by the Country Music Association.
Breakthrough
The success of Brad Paisley’s second studio record Part II cemented his status as a rising star in the country music genre. However it was with his third album Mud on the Tires that the singer reached the number one spot on the Billboard country chart. Released via Arista Nashville in 2003, the record produced four Top Ten singles. These included Whiskey Lullaby, Little Moments, Cheerful and the title track. While the album received double Platinum certification, the two singles Whiskey Lullaby and Mud on the Tires were certified Gold singles.
The sequel album to Mud on the Tires came out in 2005. Titled Time Well Wasted, the album featured a duet with legendary singer Dolly Parton titled When I Get Where I’m Going. The record won an Academy of Country Music Award for Best Album and earned Paisley four nominations at the Grammys.

With this, the singer now held the record for the most consecutive number one hits in the SoundScan era. The instrumental, Throttleneck off the album won Paisley his first Grammy.
