Though probably best known as the home of the Indiana Pacers, Bankers Life Fieldhouse (Formerly Conseco Fieldhouse) is a record-holder for lesser-known reasons. In 2004, it set a record for the largest attendance at a U.S. Swimming event outside of the Olympics.
Located in Indianapolis, Bankers Life Fieldhouse is a major tourist attraction for the city. The indoor arena was built to replace the Market Square Arena as the home of the NBA Indiana Pacers at a cost of $183 million. The arena opened in 1999 after two years of construction, covering a total of 750,000 square feet. Bankers Life Fieldhouse has hosted games for the 2000 NBA Finals, the 2009 WNBA Finals, and the 2012 WNBA Finals. The Big Ten Conference (MenÃÂ¢ÃÂÃÂs and WomenÃÂ¢ÃÂÃÂs) college basketball tournaments are held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It also hosted the 2004 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships.
Not only does the arena host Indaina Pacers ticket holders and Indiana Fever ticket holders but it also hosts a variety of other events, including ice hockey games, tennis matches, wrestling competitions, major concerts, circus performances, ice shows, and other events. The arena has seen many different performances, from Metallica to Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Diamond, and Billy Joel. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus and Cirque du Soleil have performed at Bankers Life Fieldhouse many times in the past. World Wrestling Entertainment and the Indianapolis 500 bring other sporting event options to the arena.
As a sports and entertainment facility, Bankers Life Fieldhouse ranked first in three Sports Business Journal reader surveys for best NBA venue in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The arena was rated the best in all major sports leagues by The Ultimate Sports Road Trip in 2006. ?Bankers Life Fieldhouse can seat more than 18,000 for basketball games across three public levels and two suite levels.?
