98 Degrees Tickets

98 Degrees is an American pop and R&B boyband that got its start in the mid-90s. The band is comprised of four members: Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons. 98 Degrees is different from most boybands in that the group started independently rather than being formed by a record label and/or producer. The band has been around for over 20 years now but that is not slowing them down! This holiday season 98 Degree is coming to a venue near you to perform their holiday themed music on tour. Don’t miss your chance to see 98 Degrees live. Get your tickets today!

Forming the Band

While Jeff Timmons was attending Kent State University in Ohio, he dropped out to move to Los Angeles and pursue his music career. He met Nick Lachey through a mutual friend and the two hit it off. At the time Nick Lachey was attending Miami University to study sports medicine. Lachey recommended to Timmons that they invite Justin Jeffre to join the band as well. Jeffre was a student at the School for Creative and Performing Arts with Lachey years prior and left University of Cincinnati where he was attending college to join them in Los Angeles. The final addition to the band was Nick Lacheys younger brother, Drew Lachey. Drew at the time was working in New York City as an emergency medical technician.

To support themselves, the four young men had to work various odd jobs when they first started living in Los Angeles. While working in landscaping, food delivery, and club security, the young men were able to make the time to do numerous auditions around the city to build their contacts in the music industry. It was not long after that the group was discovered by Paris D’Jon who at the time was managing Montell Jordan. D’Jon got the band signed with Motown Records. Motown with 98 Degrees released 98°, the band’s debut album. The first single for the album was released on June 24, 1997 and reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself eventually became certified gold by the RIAA, selling over 500,000 copies. The group began to gain traction in the music industry with the release of their first album and touring around the world. They even opened for a few of Janet Jacksons performances.

98 Degrees and Rising

In 1998, 98 Degrees appeared in a song featured in Disney’s Mulan with legend Stevie Wonder which helped expand their audience and increase their popularity. Shortly after, the band released their second album: 98 Degrees and Rising. 98 Degrees and Rising went certified 4-times platinum in 1998 and featured two hit singles. The first was “Because of You” which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became certified platinum. The other was “The Hardest Thing” which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became certified gold. The album also includes the Mulan track with Stevie Wonder.

A year later 98 Degrees released their first Christmas album This Christmas (1999). The album went platinum within its first year and included the top 40 hit song “This Gift”. Holiday music was a genre that 98 Degrees seemed to do well with and the band would return back to this style later in their career.

Before beginning works on their fourth album, 98 Degrees collaborated with Mariah Carey and Joe on a single called “Thank God I Found You”. This single went certified gold and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. A few months later, the group released the single, “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)”, for their upcoming album. The single peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became certified gold. Shortly after, Revelation (2000) was released. The band’s fourth studio album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and became certified 2-times platinum.

Two years later the band released a compilation album called The Collection (2002). The release of this album would mark the beginning of a long hiatus for the group while the band members ventured off to work on their solo careers. 98 Degrees would not release another album until 2013.

The Reunion

After going their separate ways Drew, Nick, Justin, and Jeff got back in the studio together to record their first album in over a decade. The album was called 2.0 and was released on May 7, 2013. Almost immediately after, on May 28, 98 Degrees joined New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men for a North American tour called “The Package”.

In 2016, 98 Degrees regrouped again for another tour, this time a headlining tour called My2k Tour. This was their first headlining tour in 15 years. They were supported by several other artists including O-Town, Ryan Cabrera, and Dream – sticking with the late 90s and early 2000s pop theme. A year later, 98 Degrees released their second holiday album called Let It Snow. For 2018, the group plans to go on a tour during the holiday season to perform their seasonal hit songs.
