There aren’t too many rock bands from the 2000s that have managed to last the distance. A lot of those acts have fallen by the wayside but there is one group that is still as relevant as it was when it first broke through. They are none other than 3 Doors Down.
They announced their arrival on the music scene with the super-hit track Kryptonite in the year 2000 and then followed that up by coming out with their album “The Better Life” the same year. The rest as they say is history.
3 Doors Down owe their success and longevity to the power of their music. They have evolved over the years but at the same time their core music has been the same. Now they are going to hit the road and it promises to be another one of their epic tours. Titled the “Back Porch Jam” tour, it is an acoustic tour that will kick off proceedings in the middle of January, 2018. Fans are pretty excited to see them live to say the least. If you are one of them, then grab your 3 Doors Down tickets and catch them live in concert.
3 Doors Down hails from Escatawpa, Mississippi. They started off by touring outside of their city and one of those treks took them to Foley. That is when they came up with 3 Doors Down as their official name. While traveling through the city, they saw a sign that read “Doors Down” as some of the letters had fallen down. The band back then consisted of three members Matt Roberts, Todd Harrell and Brad Arnold. So, they added “3” before Doors Down to come up with their unique name.
The three of them spent a couple of years performing before they added Chris Henderson to the line-up. They recorded a demo CD and gave it to WCPR-FM, the radio station. The station started to play their track Kryptonite and it became a massive hit on the radio station. It remained their most requested track and it stayed that way for fifteen weeks. The success the band enjoyed on the radio station eventually paved the way for it to be signed by Republic Records. Kryptonite has been certified four times platinum in the US and platinum in Australia.
3 Doors Down Come to the Party
It was now time for 3 Doors Down to release their debut studio album and it duly arrived in the year 2000 in the form of “The Better Life.” The record turned out to be a massive hit. Three of its songs Be Like That, Loser and Kryptonite all went to prominent positions on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went on to sell over a whopping six million copies around the globe. In the US, too, it went six times platinum and was certified twice platinum across the border in Canada.
3 Doors Down then came out with their next album titled “Away from the Sun” in the year 2002 and it took just too months to sell over a million copies and earn platinum certification in the process. Away from the Sun eventually went five times platinum in the US. It has also been certified platinum in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. The record peaked at the eighth spot in the US and Australia. It also went to the third position in the UK and to the eleventh spot in New Zealand.
Success Piles Up
3 Doors Down then released their debut Extended Play titled “Another 700 Miles” that consisted of their performance at Chicago. The EP has been certified platinum in the US. By the time the year 2005 rolled into town, they had already sold more than a whopping twelve million albums.
3 Doors Down then added to that number with their next album “Seventeen Days” that hit the music stores on February 8, 2005. It was their first studio album in three years and the record went on to peak at the top spot on the US Billboard 200. Seventeen Days has been certified platinum in the US while it has gone gold in Canada.
They followed that up by releasing their self-titled album in May of 2008. The record went straight to the top spot on the US Billboard 200 on its debut and in the process, became 3 Door Down’s second straight album to reach the number one spot. It was their fourth album to make it to the Top Ten.
“3 Doors Down” also charted in countries like Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and New Zealand. The album earned gold certifications in the US, UK, Canada and Germany.
3 Doors Down have released two more albums since then, “Time of My Life” and “Us and the Night” in 2011 and 2016 respectively. The former went on to debut at the third position on the US Billboard 200. It also reached the first spot on the US Billboard Rock Albums, the US Billboard Alternative Albums and the US Billboard Hard Rock Albums charts.
